Varicocele embolisation is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure used to treat a one-sided (unilateral) varicocele, where veins in the scrotum enlarge due to faulty valves causing backward blood flow. Through a tiny puncture in the groin or neck, a thin catheter is guided into the affected testicular vein under X-ray. The vein is then blocked using coils or sclerosant, stopping reflux and allowing swollen veins to shrink. The procedure needs no surgical incision, is done under local anesthesia, and patients return home the same day. Recovery is quick, with minimal pain, making it an effective alternative to surgery. It requires 1 day stay in hospital.
